A new year has begun, and with it, spring will soon be upon us as well as the planting season. In landscaping and gardening like, in fashion, new trends always emerge as the industry continues to change and grow. Below are some of the trends we at Mammoth Landscaping think we will be seeing in 2017.
Already a trend that had begun in 2016, 2017 will continue to see the shift towards property owners favouring locally grown plants in their garden and landscape compositions. Due to ease of maintenance with the majority of local plant life, and the growing desire to support local businesses, we feel hyperlocalism is here to stay. It will also continue to do so for many years to come with the increase of environmentally conscious property owners.
Tech has been and continues to be a growing central point in our society. It seems every day marks the launch of some new app, mobile device or other electronic that advertisers always claim is the next big thing on the market. It’s no surprise then that apps and devices pertaining to the care of the outdoors would also become a trend among property owners. Sprinklers that water your lawn with the assistance of an app could become a reality as soon as this summer.
Another trend that has continued over the last few years with home owners has been the idea of cultivating an edible garden. As people become more concerned about where their food comes from, many with property have switched over from decorative plants to edible ones. This has sprung a movement where people are organizing their edible plants in a wide variety of decorative arrangements to fulfill both functions.
Building on the edible gardens movement is also property owners desire to use natural materials in hardscaping. Landscapers are predicting more and more people will be shifting towards a minimalistic approach, using smaller outdoor furniture, giving their outdoor environments an old-fashioned feel.
